Terrasson with it's Jardins de l'imaginaire is the door to the Vezere Vallee then to Montignac home to Lascaux II, named the 'Sistine Chapel of Prehistory' it is a reconstruction of the most beautiful of the original Lascaux cave frescos, created by man in the magdalenian age.
The Chateau & Jardins de Losse are furhter down river at Thonac and then onto the village of Saint Leon sur Vezere one of the most beautiful in France.
On the banks of Jor you have the splendedly restored Chateau de Chabans, go back to the days of your great grandparents in the village of Bournat, at Bugue you have the Perigord Noir aquarium with more than 30 pools set against a backdrop of rocks and trees.
Visit Limeuil to see the majestic meeting of the Dordogne and Vezere rivers, not forgetting to try out all the gourmet foods and wine available within the area.
If however you prefer more energetic and lighthearted activities theres canoe/kayaking down the river, you choose the distance you want to travel and are picked up at a prearranged place and time. Quads and cycles are available to hire or test your abilities at the crazy golf course in town. There's a host of adventure forests in the area that cater for all ages and agilities, horse riding,para gliding, and helicopter rides. Your biggest problem is how to fit everything you want to do into your holiday.
Periguex the capital town of the Perigord is 47kms away,the cultural heart of the Dordogne, it's an hospitable town with a warren of little alleyways revealing charming boutiques, restaurants & cafes, there's also a lively market on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
26kms away is Medieval Sarlat with it's orche stone buildings it's a maze of ancient and arcaded alleys. In season it is a vibrant and bustling town and its Saturday morning market is a must. Cathedrale St. Sacerdos and the Lanterne des Morts tower are among the notable historic buildings.
Carry on towards the valley of the Dordogne and you will find La Roque-Gageac reputably the prettiest village in France and the medieval village of Domme perched on a rocky peak with fantastic views over the valley of the Dordogne.
Another few kilometres brings you to the 15th century Chateau de Castelnaud with its fasinating museum of war in the middle ages this is very child friendly & will keep even the most exhuberant child amused for several hours, there are many more interesting chateaux & gardens etc within close proximity.
